Hi, I’m Eimear (ee-mer), a bookkeeper based in Bolsover, Derbyshire, where I live with my husband, Jack, and our English bulldog, Spud.

Where most of my clients dread bookkeeping, I genuinely enjoy it! Despite studying Fine Art at uni - where I focused on artworks based on money and business! - finance has been the common theme of my career. Over the years, I've managed cash offices in retail stores, worked as vault manager at Santander, and was part of the finance team at Boots’ Head Office. Later, I was a grant funding manager for the Civil Service, and handled bookkeeping for a small charity.

When faced with redundancy last year, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to study with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and launch Balanced Books.

I understand the challenges of running a small business. Over the last eight years, Jack and I became landlords and ran an IT consultancy business. We know how it feels to spin several plates as a small business owner. Between tracking expenses, updating social media, and staying compliant, we understand that trying to handle it all while running a business is no easy task!

When I’m not working, training for bikini bodybuilding competitions is my main hobby. I'm usually in the gym five times per week, tracking my food and getting my steps in - there are lots of numbers and structure involved in bodybuilding too! Browsing books at the library, going out for walks with Jack and friends, and singing with my 'church family' all make me happy! To end the day, nothing beats getting comfy on the sofa and watching a good Netflix series.
